rainbow poplar? Poplar wood is a very common and relatively inexpensive wood.
The color of poplar wood is typically white cream, to light green. On rare
occasions, poplar wood can have these incredible veins of color ranging from
dark green, to red, light and dark purple, gray, bluish and dark black. Some
are even striped with all these colors combined. These hard-to-find colorful
veins in poplar wood is commonly referred to as rainbow poplar. These
colorations are rare, and highly sought after by many woodworkers. And because
poplar is such an inexpensive wood, lumber mills do not sort out the rainbow
poplar. Coming across rainbow poplar is just the luck of the draw. I've been
sorting out this rare and colorful wood for several weeks, and I have enough
collected to offer a handful of sets.
